Bigger Eyes with Double-Winged Eyeliner

When creating an eye look for ballroom, stage, or any other venue/event at which you would be viewed from a distance, one of the most important things to keep in mind is that you want to create the illusion of large, open eyes. One of the easiest ways to create this illusion is to use a double-winged liner (i.e. one wing on the top lashline and one wing on the bottom lashline. This technique works to make your eyes look more open because it creates the illusion that your bottom lashline is lower than it actually is, thus creating a doll-eyed effect. Once you’ve created the double wing, you can emphasize the openness you’ve created by popping a white or cream shadow (depending on your skin tone) into the spaces between your liner wings, or alternatively you can pack glitter into these spaces to make your eyes really pop. If you’re a little confused by what I mean, you can check out a tutorial of this double-winged technique from NikkieTutorials, who you already know I love. Keep in mind, Nikkie’s makeup in this tutorial is far too subtle for the ballroom, but she gives an excellent explanation of how to create a double-winged liner, though you may want to extend your lower wing a bit further than Nikkie does here. If you decide to try your hand at this double wing technique, please tweet your photos to @Ballroom_Bitch!
